Tripoli, Libya

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Prayer for Movement Team:

Gracious Father, Your Spirit hovered over the earth, and it came into being. You spoke the word, and healing came. You sent your wind on the Day of Pentecost as a sign that in the last days, Your Spirit would be poured out on young and old, men and women. Today, we remember the promise of Acts 1:8: that we are to wait to “recieve power when the Holy Spirit comes on [us]; and [we] will be [His] witnesses…to the ends of the earth.” We ask on behalf of Hawwa and her team, who are walking through the markets of Tripoli, Libya, today. Breathe on them, fill them with Your power, and make them bold witnesses for You among all the peoples, refugees, and youth in and around the city. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Learn more about Tripoli, Libya

Tripoli, Libya’s capital city, is a large metropolitan area on the Mediterranean sea just south of Sicily and north of the Sahara. The country was under foreign rule intermittently for over two thousand years prior to its independence in 1951.

Due to their arid climate, Libya was almost completely dependent on foreign aid and imports for the stability of their economy until petroleum was discovered in the late 1950’s. After the rise and fall of the socialist state under Muammar Gaddafi’s leadership, the nation has been struggling to end the residual conflict and build state institutions.

Of the existing church presence, many Jesus followers are severely persecuted or killed and remain in hiding . Despite such affliction, an unrivaled opportunity in Libya’s history presents itself in this hour for the church to stand in courage and claim their nation for Jesus.
