Bangladesh is a country in South Asia located in the delta of the Padma and Jamuna rivers. Bangladesh, which means the “Land of the Bengals”, is the most densely populated country globally. Before its separation from India, the area was housed in the state of West Bengal. |
However, due to ongoing conflict between Hindus and Muslims, Bangladesh was awarded independence in 1971. Hence, the vast majority of the population is Bengali Muslim, the largest frontier people group in the world. |
In addition to great Gospel poverty in the nation, Bangladesh also houses many Muslim Rohingyas fleeing state-sponsored genocide in neighboring Myanmar. This influx, coupled with 4.8 million orphans roaming the country’s railways, has created an immense strain on the central government. Chittagong, the chief Indian Ocean port, is the country’s second-largest city and a central industrial hub. |
